About Me. Hi. My name is Tony Searles and I have been riding motorcycles for over 45 years. I started back in the 60s when the motorcycle industry was going through some major changes and growth. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturers like Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki were starting to produce faster and more reliable motorcycles. Two-strokes were hitting the market as road bikes and trail bikes, and becoming popular for road racing and motorcross racing. My first job, as a keen young 16-year-old straight from school, was working for a company called W.Whites Motorcycles in Newmarket, Auckland, NZ. They were the Triumph BSA and Yamaha agents in Auckland, New Zealand. I was the lunch boy :) and after a short while, and noticing that I was mad keen on learning to ride motorcycles, they let me clean and disassemble a few Triumph motors from the then Triumph Saint 650cc and Trophys. The police were riding them back then and as most of us know the early Triumphs were a bit less than reliable, unlike the sophisticated versions available today. Hence I was given the unenviable job of pulling the broken ones ap.art. I was in motorcycle heaven :) I started racing bikes in the late 60s and 70s and loved it. My passion was long distance Road Racing that was popular in the 70s, and a way of promoting new superbike models like the Honda CBX1000 (6 cylinder) and Yamahas XS1100. I did two of the Castrol Six Hour races and some of the earlier Castrol races at Pukekoe Racetrack near Auckland (my home track), and several races up and down the country. Since then, and many thousands of kilometres plus a few sore bums, I have gained great pleasure from being open to the environment in the best possible way, and the chance to experience my passion for the love of motorcycling ...
